Debaters

My experience with international debate starts last year; before that I had only debated in Italian circuits with my schoolmates.

After I entered the Italian National team, I took part to the Dutch Schools debate Championship and to the South African debating Championship.

Before a match I often listen to an ACDS song to calm myself down and boost my adrenaline. Afterwards I enjoy my favourite dish: pizza!

I began debating in 2018. It started off very casually, almost by chance, when i decided to join the school’s debate club just for fun, to explore a new world. Not much later i was hooked and took part in my first tournament, the 2nd edition of the olimpiadi regionali di debate Italia, in 2019, representing my school with the team “EPNers”.

Soon after i became a debate coach for the younger recruits at my school, participated again in 2020 in the 3rd edition of the olimpiadi regionali di debate Italia and at the beginning of this year i joined the national debating team with which i already took part in 3 international tournaments this year. I can’t wait for the WSDC!!

Something curious about me: my friends call me “Maestro” (Grandmaster) because I always show them the way.

Riccardo Fazzini

IISS “Mosè Bianchi” – Monza

Riccardo Fazzini is known as “Il Nazionale”, due to his light blue vespa called “La Nazionale”, that reminds the Italian Football team. He has started debating for fun and with the pass of time it has become one of his most important passions. He really loves having fun with his teammates, but when the debate takes place, he becomes a hungry shark ready to attack. The combination between determination, concentration and Alvaro Soler songs will make him ready to face without fear every opponent. I am a proud Italian guy. Therefore, food is a priority: a dish of spaghetti with meatballs will be always the best fuel to face a debate up in the best way!

Once overcome the first impact you will find out I am not half as merciless as I looked like, as long as you gained my respect (otherwise you should kick rocks).

The passion for debate goes hand-in-hand with the interest for travelling and the love for foreign cultures. Going around the world I got to experience many kinds of debate, from the British and Irish at DCU, to the American taught at MIT or even the Québécois style in French. Be prepared to debate in more than one language!

Once you start an argument you better get ready to keep going for hours, because different opinions and perspectives are my favourite dish. If you start to feel overwhelmed by words, try to show me the nearest swimming pools or ski tracks and I might decide to let you go. While my favorite sports are individual, teamwork is one of the things I value the most as cooperation is the key to the success I long for.

Suamy Guerra

My first debate tournament was the annual debate championship organized in my school, which I took part in my first year of high school.

I’ve never stropped since then and I’ve been debating for four years now.

I participated in all the local tournament and I took part in Erasmus+, an exchange project about debate with Slovenia.

My real debate career started in 2019. That year, my team and me won the local debate tournament and we were second in the National Debate Championship. I also placed as second best debater in my region and fifth best debater in Italy. Finally, this year my team and me had the honour to win the local debate tournament and the two National Debate Championships and I was placed as best debater in my region and fourth best debater in Italy.

Something I really like about myself is my name. Firstly, for its meaning: indeed, Suamy means love in Indian and my surname means war in Italian. Secondly, my name is basically an oxymoron, which I think it is pretty cool.

My favourite foods are pizza and ice cream.
